American Express creates "Members Lounge" in shopping mall

See the press release here. Also check out PROMO Magazine, Shoppers Kick-Back in American Express Lounge.

Many card companies negotiate agreements to provide their cardholders access to airport lounges. And they all copy each other instantly. At some airports, virtually any card in your wallet will get you into the lounge (for a comical example in Karachi, see "A crowd of cards caught copycating, doing their best to look exactly alike").

As a more upscale solution, ABN AMRO offers Preferred Banking clients access to a special lounge that the bank has built within Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. You can't use another card to get in.

American Express’s “Members Lounge” is the first time I have seen this concept taken to shopping malls.
